How much is a will

What are your options?

You could buy a pack from a shop - it will probably cost less than £25. Of course, you'll never be sure whether your will is legal, you'll probably get it home and stick it in a drawer until you can be bothered to do it - you'll find it in there in 5 years time, by which time any advice about limits and challenges will be out of date.

You could do it online. Charges will vary - Which? charges £89 for a single will and £129 for mirror wills. (A mirror will is 2 wills for 2 people (e.g. husband and wife) who want to dispose of their estate in exactly the same way.

Of course nowadays you may have children from more than one relationship, you may have interests in more than one property, your property ownership might put you over the nil rate band for inheritance tax. If you have a business or you don't want to leave your share of a property to your spouse then they'll re-direct you to a solicitor.

You could go to a solicitor. You'll have to go to their offices, probably. They may do a fixed price, but in my experience they won't want to spend a long time discussing your requirements. Then you'll have to go back and sign it and get it witnessed.

That's 2 appointments, 2 lots of parking charges and 2 lots of waiting until they are ready to see you.

Or you can call me. I'll come to you in your home, at a mutually convenient time and we'll discuss your requirements - hopefully over a cup of tea or coffee!

I'll take your information and give you my advice - if you want me to I'll go away, have your wills drawn up and email you a draft.

Then I'll bring the finished article back to you at home and we'll go through the attestation process together - to ensure the will is legal.

A single will is £90, 2 wills for a couple - even if they're slightly different - is £150.

Trusts are more expensive and depend on their complexity, but a Protective Property Trust - for instance - can help protect your home from being sold to pay for care home fees.

How much is your peace of mind worth?

Protect your family from the nightmare that is intestacy. Decide who YOU want to look after your children if you're no longer around to do it - don't leave that decision to Social Services and the Family Courts.

Call me.
